PKV improves noise protection for neighbours

With a modernized noise barrier, PKV is helping to ensure that in future less of the plant will be heard on directly adjacent properties.

Varel. The Papier- und Kartonfabrik Varel (PKV) is improving the noise protection between its factory premises and the directly adjacent properties in Helgoländer Straße, Nelkenstraße and Dangaster Straße. The existing noise barrier is getting on in years and will be replaced with a better one. In June 2019, PKV had informed its neighbors of these plans. In the meantime, the building permit has been issued and PKV plans to start construction of the new wall at the end of January / beginning of February. The direct neighbours have already been informed about this.

Modern soundproofing materials give the wall much more impact than before. In consultation with the neighbours, it will be planted throughout so that it will be completely overgrown in the future.

Example photo of a sound barrier overgrown over several years.

The wall will have a height of seven, in some areas of the Nelkenstraße of five meters (depending on the sound sources on the factory premises). It will be built roughly in the middle of the former railway site. The green strip towards the direct neighbours is maintained by PKV. There are no plans to put a footpath there. The access to this green strip will get a gate towards the Dangaster Straße to allow the access for maintenance works.

The construction work will take around eight to ten weeks over the entire length of the wall (650 metres). First of all, the necessary preparatory grove work will begin towards the end of January. At the same time, pipes are being vibrated into the ground as foundations – they are not being driven to reduce construction site noise. Nevertheless, during the construction period there may of course be noise disturbances during the day. The PKV asks for your understanding in this matter.
